World Championships Bermuda Bowl Contest!

Now that was a mouthful!

It’s that time of year and Master Point Press is out to get you excited about the Bermuda Bowl and other World Team Championship games!

Select the teams that place in the Bermuda Bowl to win fabulous prizes for your bridge habit.

Your job is to:

Pick the final eight teams

Pick the four semifinalists

Pick the two finalists

Pick the winner of the 3/4 game

Pick the winner

Tie breaker this year: who you think will be the highest placing team in the D’Orsi Senior Bowl.

If there is a tie the winner will be chosen by the position of their Senior team.  If there is still a tie then we will select the winner through an electronic coin toss here in the headquarters of MPP.

Points:

  1. 1 point for each of the quarter finalists: MAX 8 points
  2. 2 points for each of the four semifinalists: MAX 8 points
  3. 3 points for each of the two finalists: MAX 6 points
  4. 3 points for the winner of the 3/4 playoff: MAX 4 points
  5. 4 points for the winner of the final: MAX 4 points

Now Linda has asked that if any mathematician thinks we should change the point system to then let us know.

‘Tricks Are For Kids’ the Bridge4Kids.ca October Newsletter!

EXTRA! EXTRA!

The new newsletter for Bridge4Kids.ca is out with a few new features such as Interview a GTA Junior!

Now you might be wondering, Why are Master Point Press and BridgeBlogging.com excited?

It is very simple: because we LOVE bridge and we think it’s great to see the game of bridge grabbing a new and young audience. Who knows, Bridge4Kids.ca could be interviewing and guiding the next generation of bridge teachers and masters as we speak!

In this most recent newsletter we see the new feature ‘Interview with a GTA Junior’, this edition featuring Shan Huang, 22 from Toronto! Interviewing Juniors is a great way for the rest of the bridge community to join them in their growth with the game, see what they like best and know a bit more about the bridge players of tomorrow.

We hope you’ll take a few moments to check out the newsletter and look at Bridge4Kids.ca too.

And I’m confused…

It’s just after 3pm on a Friday afternoon and I feel like I’ve been through a whirlwind! For the last hour or so I was taken through my first game of Bridge with Linda and the gang here at Master Point Press.

My Conclusion: I need to learn to speak the language of bidding! There is a lot that goes into the game and thankfully everyone here has been patient enough to let me stumble and learn. I enjoyed it, though I doubt I could recreate any hands here to help descibe the game itself.

What I do know is that my bidding is going to need some training! For what I bid as a 1 quickly turned into a 4 that I could not see through. It was madness I tell you! A wonderful entertaining and educational madness that I’ll gladly try my hand at again.

Linda has been wonderful in teaching me the do’s and don’t with a very supportive attitude. After each hand we walked through what I could have done better, what I did well and what couldn’t be avoided. Definitions started coming at me and all those words I’ve been reading in the bridge books like ‘Finesse’ are starting to have more meaning than just ‘bridge terms’. While Sally and Ray demonstrated to me that bidding is a complicated language, completely reliant on what happened before, after and from what direction.

Now here’s to hoping that next time I get some better hands and a little courage to bid with confidence and play strategically.

There Goes the Neighborhood!

Hello bridgeblogging.com followers and stumblers from the world wide web!

My name’s Lisa, the new spunky Intern here at Master Point Press! Okay maybe a little less spunky and a bit more ‘odd’ but I’m here! I am truly excited for the opportunity to work with the blog, bloggers and MPP.

This will be a short introduction as I have something special in store and I just can’t wait to share with you all! I bet you’re just itching to know now…

I am new to Bridge. Very new. Yesterday was my very first dive into the pool and I’m treading well enough. I spent a good deal of the day playing with robots online which of course reminded me how important real people are when it comes to Bridge.

Am I good? Oh heaven’s no, and since I am definitely not be the next Bridge prodigy  I’ll keep trucking. I’ve been a Euchre girl since probably about 8 years old, playing until the early morning with my mother, brother and stepfather whenever we went vacationing, so it’s certainly going to take kicking some old habits to get the swing of it. But I’m sure you’ll all have tips on how I can be better and I welcome any advice you have!

I’ve been reading Beginning Bridge and the overall play basics are coming to me. Bidding is another issue but I’m excited! I’m all a bustle with hopes to learn the game and I look forward to my first few with Linda and everyone here at MPP.

Now before you shake your head at my lack of Bridge knowledge I assure you all I’m a very quick learner and that I look forward to adding Bridge played to my list of skills (blogging, writing, photography and minimal publishing experience to name a few).

So wish me luck!

Cheers.
